About
Adam O’Neill is a Production Designer who started working in film and television as an art department assistant on CHAPLIN, and then THE SECRET GARDEN, both designed by production designer Stuart Craig.
After rising through the ranks in the art department, he worked as an art director on a range of films including: GLADIATOR, (PD Arthur Max) TROY, X-MEN 1st CLASS, ROBIN HOOD and PROMETHEUS, and as supervising art director on film and television productions: & SONS, ALIEN ROMULUS, EMPIRE OF LIGHT, BILLY ELLIOT, THE BORGIAS, FORTITUDE, Oliver Stone’s SNOWDEN and PENNY DREADFUL, as well as some early concepts and drawings for ALIEN COVENANT with PD Chris Seagers.
An EMMY nominee for THE BORGIAS (S3) and multiple ADG and BFDG nominee.
Recent projects include THE LAST TEMPTATION OF BECKY, BEFORE THE BED, BEFORE THE KNIFE, THE ELECTRICITY IN ME as Production Designer.
Also has worked as a theatre and opera designer, and as a design consultant. A member of AMPAS, BAFTA, the British Film Designers Guild and is an ex-Chair of the BFDG.
Production Design is a delicate balance of visual storytelling, context and mood.
Stuart Craig once said that the chief qualities needed for a designer are “stubbornness and resilience…”
It is an extension of art direction to encompass every aspect of the design.
It almost goes without saying that you need a great team working with you, it is virtually impossible as an individual pursuit.
